The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants

Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn star as four lifelong friends, who find a pair of jeans that mysteriously fits each of them perfectly. As summer holidays approach, they vow to each spend a week with the jeans and then post them on to the next person along with a note detailing the events that occurred whilst wearing them.

Tibby is sarcastic and fed up, annoyed at being the only one left at home for the summer. Whilst her friends jet off on holidays, she has to babysit her sister and work at the local supermarket to earn money so she can buy new film equipment. To pass the time Tibby starts filming a documentary of life in her town. She becomes even more irritated by Bailey, a twelve year old who takes it upon herself to ‘help’ with Tibby’s filming. But Bailey has a secret that will change Tibby’s views on life and death and teach her to tolerate other people.

Bridget has been sent to football camp in Mexico, her dad seems only too pleased to get rid of her, they’ve had a strained relationship since her mother commited suicide a few years before. She’s excited until she realises it’s girls only, but it’s not long before she sets her eye on one of the coaches. She’s determined to have him, but she soon realises that what she thought she wanted wouldn’t solve all the problems in her life.

Carmen is thrilled that she’s going to spend the summer with her Dad, who’s she’s only seen a handful of times since her parents split up. But it’s not just her Dad she’ll be spending time with, it’s also his new girlfriend and her two teenage children, who he failed to mention before she arrives. Not just that, but in a couple of weeks they’re planning on getting married. Carmen is shocked at how different her Dad is acting around his new family. Feeling an outcast, she runs away but not before disgracing herself in front of them all.

Lena is off to stay with her Greek grandparents on the beautiful island of Santorini. Shy and under-confident, she is unsure of herself around a handsome local boy who saves her life when she falls into the ocean. She agrees to meet him again but her grandmother forbids her from talking to him and Lena learns that their grandfathers are enemies. She tries to forget him, but she cannot, eventually realising too late that she loves him.

Every character grows and develops throughout the film, the plot follows each of their complex lives equally. Every lead actress was nominated for at least one award for their performance. America Ferrera won the 2006 Imagen Foundation Award for Best Actress for her role as Carmen.
